About Philip James Author

Stories have always been my way of holding onto the fleeting and the forgotten. I write gothic, romantic, and mysterious tales that blur the line between history and imagination — places where shadows linger, bells toll in the distance, and characters walk the fine edge between beauty and sorrow.

My upcoming series, Requiem for Paris, is set in the early 1800s, where the lives of young Parisians intertwine with cathedrals, secrets, and the echoes of revolution. I’m also developing Ashridge Hollow, a coastal gothic mystery for young adults, because I believe every age deserves stories that feel like both a lantern in the dark and an invitation to dream.

Alongside writing, I create artwork under Studio Philip James — paintings and prints inspired by the same atmosphere my novels live in: cathedral arches, ravens, gilded light, and the ghostly hum of old Europe.

Whether through words or paint, my work is about evoking that feeling of stepping into another world, one that feels both haunting and familiar.

A man with dark, messy hair and a light shirt under a black coat is smiling and touching his chin with his right hand. Behind him, a small blue-grey dragon with bat-like wings, sharp claws, and a mischievous expression is perched on his shoulder. The background shows a blurred, gloomy cityscape with tall, pointed buildings.
